Ipe
Ipe is a dense, naturally rot resistant hardwood with exceptional weathering characteristics that is unsurpassed for exterior use. It is highly stable and resists bowing, cupping, warping, twisting and splintering. Its tight interlocked grain is virtually free of defects. Due to its hardness, Ipe is highly wear resistant and withstands the harshest abuse. Best of all, Ipe is maintenance free for the life of the product. It requires no chemical preservatives or sealers, and when allowed to weather, ages naturally to a silver gray patina. It is naturally resistant to molds, brown and white rot fungi, and termites. A service life of over 25 years, and possibly twice as long, may be expected as exhibited on projects such as the Atlantic City boardwalk where it has been in use for over fifty years. Ipe is ideally suited for decks, docks, bridges, boardwalks, and marinas.
